Skip Hire for Shed Removal and Outbuilding Clearances in Stockport and Manchester

Sheds, garden rooms and outbuildings are easy to overlook - until the day you decide to take one down. Whether a timber structure has finally rotted beyond repair, you need the space for something new, or you are clearing a property ahead of a sale, demolishing and clearing an outbuilding generates a surprising amount of waste. Hiring a skip from United Junk is one of the most practical ways to manage that waste efficiently.

Why Shed and Outbuilding Clearances Generate More Waste Than You Expect

A standard garden shed might look modest from the outside, but the reality of taking one apart tells a different story. You are dealing with timber panels, roofing felt, glass panes, concrete base slabs, nails, screws and fixings - and that is before you factor in everything stored inside. Old tools, paint tins, garden chemicals, furniture, toys, bikes, boxes and years of accumulated clutter all need to go somewhere.

Larger outbuildings such as summer houses, workshops, garages and storage units can produce even greater volumes of material. Trying to dispose of this waste through kerbside bins is rarely realistic. A skip placed on your driveway or nearby gives you a central point to load everything as you work, keeping the project organised and the rest of your property clear.

Choosing the Right Skip Size

United Junk offers a clear range of skip sizes to suit projects of every scale, with straightforward pricing that includes VAT.

  • 2 yard skip - £125: Suitable for a very small shed clear-out where most of the contents have already been removed and you are simply disposing of the structure itself. Holds roughly 25-35 bin bags.
  • 3 yard skip - £144: A good option for a standard small timber shed along with a modest amount of stored contents. Holds approximately 35-45 bin bags.
  • 3.5 yard skip - £168: A useful step up if you have slightly more material than a 3-yard would comfortably take, without committing to the larger 4-yard price point.
  • 4 yard skip - £192: The most versatile option and the one United Junk recommends when you are unsure. It suits a standard shed demolition plus a good volume of stored contents - tools, garden equipment, old furniture and general clutter. Holds around 45-55 bin bags.
  • 8 yard skip - £288: Ideal for larger outbuildings such as workshops, double garages or timber garden rooms, or where a shed clearance is being combined with a wider garden or property clear-out. Holds approximately 75-85 bin bags.

If you are unsure which size suits your project, the United Junk team is happy to talk through the details and point you in the right direction. Skip hire is for up to seven days unless otherwise agreed, and skips must be filled level with the rim to avoid additional charges.

What Can Go in the Skip?

For a typical shed or outbuilding removal, most of the waste generated is straightforward to dispose of. Timber panels, roofing felt, brickwork, concrete, glass, metal fixings, general garden waste and household items can all go in a United Junk skip without issue.

However, some materials commonly found in older sheds require more careful handling. These include:

  • Paint and oil: Accepted but may attract a surcharge depending on quantity.
  • Tyres: Accepted with a surcharge of £10 per tyre.
  • White goods: Items such as old fridges or freezers stored in outbuildings are accepted but carry a surcharge of £25 per item.
  • Mattresses: £10 each if stored in the outbuilding being cleared.
  • Asbestos and gas canisters: These are not accepted in United Junk skips. Older sheds and garages can sometimes contain asbestos-based roofing sheets. If you suspect this is the case, do not disturb the material and contact a specialist for guidance before proceeding.

If you are unsure about any item, call United Junk before you start loading. The team can advise on whether something is acceptable and whether a surcharge applies.

Road Permits and Skip Placement

If your driveway or garden does not have space to position a skip off the road, United Junk can arrange placement on the street or pavement. A council permit will be required in this case, which United Junk handles on your behalf for an additional fee of £42 including VAT. Getting this sorted in advance avoids delays and keeps your project on track.

Same-Day Skip Hire in Stockport and Manchester

Demolition projects often move faster than expected once you start. If you need a skip at short notice, United Junk offers same-day delivery where possible. Call early to check availability, and the team will do their best to get a skip to you promptly. The fleet is well-maintained, tracked and in constant contact with the office, so deliveries are handled efficiently across Stockport, Greater Manchester and surrounding areas.

Zero-to-Landfill Recycling

United Junk operates a modern recycling facility at their Bredbury site in Stockport, with a picking station that sorts and processes a wide range of materials. Timber, metal and general construction waste from shed removals can all be processed through this facility. The company operates a zero-to-landfill policy, meaning waste is recycled and disposed of in line with government guidelines rather than being sent straight to a tip. Choosing United Junk means your clearance waste is handled responsibly.
