Get Ready for Christmas with a Big Clear Out
The end of summer is here, and many people will now be focussing on the run to the end of the year. Christmas is always a time when people seem to accumulate more ‘stuff’ and with that in mind they use the next few months as a chance to have a proper clear out. In this article we look at how to plan to make the most of it.
1. Make and plan
Planning is the key to make sure that your pre-Christmas clear-out is a success. Prioritise the areas of the home that require attention and those areas where you need to create space.
While it can be hard to part with personal possessions and keepsakes sometimes you need to be ruthless. Sit down and compile a list of what you want to keep and what you want to get rid of. Once you have a plan make sure you stick to it.
2. Focus on the environment
The best way to help you stick to your pre-Christmas clear-out plan is by hiring a skip. If you are removing old beds, or wardrobes to make room for a home makeover then a skip is the perfect option.
Much of this waste can be recycled, and by hiring a skip it means that it won’t go to landfill, and you’ll be doing your bit for the environment. If the furniture is in a usable condition, then you might want to think about donating it to charity.
3. Ask for help
Many hands make light work, so it makes sense to get friends and family involved - you’ll certainly get the job done much quicker.
If you prefer the project management approach, then you can always hire a company to do the clear-out for you. Loading heavy items can be tricky and you don’t want to injure yourself or others, so hiring a team of professionals is the best way forward.
4. Make the most of the skip
If you’ve hired a skip, then make sure you utilise it as best you can. You will be surprised at the number of things that you can find to fill it up. As well as the inside clear-out, think about the outside as well as.
You might have an old BBQ from the summer or old garden toys that are not used any more. It always makes sense to have a look around the garden - just make sure you don’t get too carried away and overfill the skip.
5. Small changes
Many people don’t like change but there is a feeling of accomplishment when you have completely decluttered. Creating the additional space means that you can invest in more efficient storage solutions that will allow you to be more organised. There is a hard and fast rule - if you haven’t used it in over six months do you really need it?
